How this vault was made
The Cabinet of Digital Terms was produced within Project Digitale Alertheid using cartographic prompting as its methodology — an iterative research practice in which large language models (ChatGPT, Lumo, and Claude) were deployed as analytical generators. Each entry was produced through structured prompts and subsequently edited, selected, and verified by a human researcher.
Cartographic prompting treats terms not as objects to be defined but as analytical objects to be mapped — situated in their historical origins, power structures, and ideological functions. The method is documented as a research contribution in its own right.
On the links in this vault
Large language models generate URLs that are plausible but structurally unreliable. A generated link looks correct — it follows the right pattern for the right publisher — but may point nowhere, or point to something other than what was intended.
All 826 external links in this vault have therefore been manually verified by the researcher as part of the editorial process. This is not incidental. The human labour of verification — checking, correcting, and re-sourcing links that a language model could not reliably produce — is itself an instance of the ghost work, human-in-the-loop dependency, and fact-checking dynamics that several entries in this vault describe. The vault required the very labour it analyses.
