The context: ImmigrationOS is a Palantir-built software system contracted by ICE for managing immigration enforcement operations: tracking individuals, scheduling detentions, coordinating deportation logistics. Vitello offered the Amazon Prime comparison as an explanation of the system’s efficiency and comprehensiveness.
What the sentence assumes: Amazon Prime optimises the movement of packages from warehouse to delivery point. The optimisation is for speed, accuracy, and scale. The comparison assumes that the same optimisation logic — applied to people — is self-evidently positive: more efficient, more comprehensive, better. The sentence treats the persons being deported as the packages being delivered. The dehumanisation is not polemical — it is operational. The categorical framework was so embedded that it was offered as an explanation, not a boast.

The analytical work the sentence does: It makes visible what Dehumanization — Bandura’s moral disengagement — looks like when it is not extreme but mundane: not “these people are subhuman” but “these people are inventory.” The bureaucratic register is the mechanism. Algorithmic Violence — harm produced by automated systems without individual decisions — is the system ImmigrationOS operationalises.
