Origin: The provider role has longstanding cultural history, but the manosphere reframing is specific: it strips the role of emotional content and reframes it as a market transaction within SMV (Sexual Market Value) logic. The provider is typically contrasted with the “alpha” — the dominant, sexually attractive man — who gets relationships without providing resources. The dichotomy implies that providers are being exploited.
